OLIGOlife
Most of the available data about past biodiversity during the 'Tertiary' of Europe are based on the Palaeocene, Eocene, and, specially, Miocene sites. On the contrary, late Oligocene accumulations are very uncommon, specially in the Iberian Peninsula; and our knowledge about the biota of this period is scarce. Fortunately, in Galicia (NW Iberian Penisula) there are around 20 sedimentary basins, with diverse plant and vertebrate remains dated back to the late Oligocene-Miocene. OLIGOlife project steams to study these fossil localities and the vertebrate, invertebrate and flora remains to shed light on the taxa and biodiversity that inhabited the Iberian Peninsula during the Oligocene.
